Courtyard is conscious of the fact that picture framing can produce a certain amount of waste. To this end, we have put in place a number of measures to ensure that this is kept to a minimum. These include:

 • Mouldings are ordered on a weekly basis so that a minimum of stock is kept in storage – we only order what we actually need for each week’s work (which is why our lead time for frames is almost always 7 days).

• Separation of paper and card waste from other disposables for recycling

• Faulty frames are sold in our seconds basket in the shop rather than being discarded.

• All offcuts are used for firewood by members of the team who have wood-burning stoves rather than open fires.

• For regular-sized pictures we use bags made from recycled paper and only give carriers if a customer asks for one specifically.

• Wherever possible we use only water-based paints for painted frames.

• Bottles and glass are recycled where possible.

• In the staffroom, we recycle our plastic bottles, glass and paper - and even the juice pulp from the staff juicer gets re-used – in the form of a delicious treat for some pigs kept by a friend!
